Energy-Saving Upgrades that Will Increase Your Home’s Value

April 6, 2020 By Martin MacFarlane Leave a Comment

When choosing upgrades for your home, there are many factors to consider. You not only want to choose projects that will save you money, but that will also add value to your home. Here are several upgrades that will help your family consume less energy and will lower your monthly energy bill. Plus, these upgrades will increase your home’s value and make your property more appealing to potential buyers.

New Windows

Replacing old windows with wood or aluminum frames can greatly improve your home’s curb appeal. Plus, newer products do a much better job regulating the temperature inside your home. They trap air inside your house and reduce the amount of work your furnace or air conditioning system must do.

Additionally, new windows are a large selling point for many buyers as it is an upgrade many do not want to complete themselves. While you may be a little hesitant for this project because of its high upfront costs, keep in mind that new windows have a high return of investment and you can expect at least 70% of your money back.

Light Fixtures

Improving the light fixtures around your home is a task that doesn’t require too much time or knowledge. Approximately 4% of the energy used in your home is from your lights. This means that you need lights with energy-saving qualities. Additionally, many new light fixtures are also simple to install and do not require the help of a professional electrician. If updating the lights around the outside of your home, many new products are extremely bright, helping to improve the security around your Markham home as well.

If you don’t have the time or money to replace many light fixtures, making small changes like switching to LED light bulbs can make a significant difference and help to decrease your home’s energy usage.

Updated Appliances

Did you know that your home’s appliances make up 14% of your home’s energy usage? This means that if you want to reduce your energy usage and save a little money, you need to focus on your current appliances. Plus, by upgrading these items, it will give your living spaces an updated look, which is appealing to buyers. These items also offer advanced features and technology that make them more functional, convenient, and enjoyable to use.

Install Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans not only enhance the look of a living space, they can also regulate the temperature of a home without consuming a significant amount of energy. By circulating the fan properly, you can move air around the room, helping to keep you and all of your guests comfortable. Plus, one study found that 85% of buyers desire ceiling fans in their homes.

When you are smart with the upgrades you make throughout your house, you will attract potential buyers more easily and reduce your energy consumption in the process.
