Home Design Trends You’ll See in 2019

January 7, 2019 By Martin MacFarlane Leave a Comment

In the year 2018, many homes featured shiplap, two-toned cabinets, marble, and more. There were many design trends that changed the look of homes in the Markham area while other home design trends were over in a blink of an eye. So what does 2019 look like in home design?

Here are several trends that you can expect to see during this new year.

1. Wood, Wood, and More Wood!

Wood is going to be popular in every room throughout the home. Wood trim, cabinets, shelves, and flooring are going to give houses a very natural and classic look. One of the benefits of wood is there are all types and colors so you can still enjoy a very customized look while staying up-to-date with the latest trends.

2. Green

Greenis going to be the color of 2019. You will see all shades of green throughout homes — green furniture, paint colors, wall art, and more. And while all shades of green are going to become popular, darker shades are standing out. And, you will also see lots of greenery sprucing up spaces and adding more color and energy to a room as well.

3. Bold Colors and Fabrics

In the past, many interior design experts have focused on warm, neutral colors. But, in 2019, they suggest you go bold. Choose boldand bright colors for various living spaces. However, many design experts do not suggest you paint an entire room in a bold and dark color. This can become an eyesore and create a very overwhelming space. Rather, they suggest you choose an accent wall, a piece of furniture, a rug, etc.

4. Two-toned Cabinets

In 2018, two-toned cabinets were extremely popular during kitchen remodels and new construction homes. We will continue to see this trend in the upcoming year and there is no sign of it disappearing. Two-toned cabinets are when the top cabinets are a much lighter color than the lower cabinets. The top cabinets will generally boast a light color such as white, light gray, etc., while the bottom is bold with navy blues, blacks, and more.

5. Unique Light Fixtures

Light fixtures are quickly becoming a statement piece in a room. Many designers are choosing fixtures that become the main focal point and immediately impress. While there are many different types of light fixtures to choose from, it is important that you take many things into consideration such as the size and function of the room before you choose one.
