How to Improve the Privacy Around Your Markham Home

June 8, 2020 By Martin MacFarlane Leave a Comment

Now that the weather is beautiful, you are likely spending much of your extra time outdoors. This means that you need privacy around your Markham property to help you feel comfortable and to prevent unwanted eyes. There are many ways you can improve the privacy around your Markham property. Here are three of them.

1. A Fence

A fence is one of the easiest ways to improve privacy around your home. Plus, fences improve the curb appeal of your property and can increase your home’s value as well. However, one of the greatest challenges becomes determining the type of fencing that you desire. A few options you may consider include:

Wooden: A wood fence is a great option to increase privacy around your yard. It is also one of the more inexpensive fence options available. When choosing a wood fence, there are several designs available including single fence pickets to full wood fence panels. Keep in mind that this type of fencing requires extra maintenance to keep it looking good and in excellent shape year after year.

Vinyl: There are several types of vinyl fences so you can choose a product that offers excellent security. These fences will not only improve your home’s security and privacy, but they complement most homes as well.

Cement/Brick: Cement and brick materials make the best types of fences if you want complete privacy. This type of fence can withstand many outdoor conditions.

2. Privacy Bushes

Another popular option to improve the privacy around your home is to plant privacy bushes and shrubs. These are plants that will grow tall and thick, providing the coverage that you desire around your property. One of the most popular privacy plants is the Arborvitae. This plant is available in all different shapes and sizes. For example, some Arborvitae can grow up to 70 feet tall and feature a pencil-like appearance, while others will reach their maximum height at 3 feet and have a curved shape.

3. Trees

Trees are an excellent way to not only increase the privacy around your home but to also block noise and views into nearby neighbours’s yards. Most privacy trees, particularly Evergreen trees, are easy to grow and require very little maintenance. They also improve the curb appeal around your home and can add much greenery to your landscaping. Keep in mind that you will need to plant trees several feet apart so it may take some time before you receive the level of privacy you desire.

3. Privacy Wall

If you don’t have a large yard or you want a little more privacy on a patio or porch area, consider a privacy wall. These are small walls that you can install around your outdoor gathering areas to give you a little peace of mind. These walls are quick to install and provide immediate privacy.
